Champagne Cocktail

The Champagne Cocktail is referred to worldwide as the 'Classic Champagne Cocktail', with its simplicity but elegance and class. It first originated in 1899, from the winner of a New York cocktail competition.

The Champagne Cocktail made its first public appearance in Jerry Thomas's How to Mix Drinks, this book being the oldest know book of cocktail recipes.

This cocktail is perhaps one of the easiest cocktails you make, it requires no equipment or tools, so why not give it a try…

The Recipe

This recipe serves 1

• 1 sugar cube
• Dash Angostura bitters
• Dash of brandy
• Champagne

Add the sugar cube in the bottom of a champagne flute, add a dash of Angostura bitters to cover the sugar and then add a dash of brandy. Fill to the top with champagne and enjoy!

Variations

• If you want to enjoy a champagne cocktail but on a budget you can try replacing the champagne with dry white sparkling wine, such as Cava, Blanquette de Limoux or Saumur for example.

• If you do not like brandy or you wish to have a lighter cocktail you can always leave it out, the original recipe did not actually contain brandy.
